Safety around Flooding/Water problems

 There are numerous dangers when you encounter flooding or any standing water in your home or basement. The most obvious is electrical shock and all precautionary steps need to be taken to ensure this doe not happen. Some key steps are:

  • Examine the area without getting near the water
  • If electrical outlets, electrical cords or electronic equipment is touching the water use extreme caution
  • Turn breakers to the off position prior to going into the area
  • Pump water out of the area using a pump system with electrical shock safety equipment
  • Thoroughly dry out area including any contents
  • After using a dehumidifier in the area or air-movers, add oil back into the wooden furniture to prevent drying cracking, etc.
